While no instituted program can eliminate all culpable risk factors from any site, the implementation of a Medical Emergency Response Team (MERT) Program and an Emergency Action Plan (EAP) can drastically reduce them. Preventable injuries can cost a business an unforeseen amount each year. Medical bills, Worker's Compensation, Insurance Claims and Lost Productivity may lead to countless indirect costs. As an employer, you need to keep your staff educated and current on emergency procedures and prevention to keep these costs down. MERT members, not unlike other Emergency Personnel are also indemnified from lawsuits arising from the rendering of care in good faith under the Federal Government's "Good Samaritan" Laws.
*What will MERT members learn?
*What makes the MERT Training Program different from other Emergency Programs?
What will MERT members learn? MERT members will participate in a one day educational program which will certify them in several categories:
*Adult/Child CPR Training: Members will learn Cardiovascular Pulmonary Resuscitation for Victims eight years and older, identification and treatment for Victims suffering Obstructed Airways and Rescue Breathing.
*Automated External Defibrillation: Members will learn the use and operation
of Automated External Defibrillators (AED) in Emergency Cardiac Situations.
*Basic First Aid: The most frequently used skill by MERT personnel. This program
will cover injury and fracture management, bleeding control, environmental emergencies,
medical emergencies, cardiac emergencies, stroke, seizure, diabetic emergencies,
poisoning, and shock.
*Oxygen Therapy: The rapid administration of emergency oxygen can often reduce
the severity of a life threatening emergency, by increasing the amount of oxygen
in the victims blood. The student will learn how to identify the need for oxygen
and how to manage administration with the use of several types of oxygen delivery
devices.
*Bloodborne and Airborne Pathogens: Members will learn to identify routes of disease transmission during occupational emergencies, and how to protect themselves and others from transmission. Regulations and protective equipment are introduced to the students.
What makes the MERT Training Program different from other Emergency Programs?
Several factors differ from the "Traditional" CPR and First Aid instruction. With MERT we are bringing all phases of a situation together, it may be an Emergency or maybe the prevention of an emergency by the quick response of a MERT member. Traditional EMS courses are drawn out over a period of weeks and are not inclusive toward a specific work site. With MERT training, we design the core material around your companies’ specific needs. We look at your work sites and train your personnel together using the Emergency resources that they have available to them. MERT members will learn how to respond to emergencies. They will learn everything from deployment to documentation. This course is extremely interactive, hands on, and will be utilizing the latest training materials and equipment the industry has to offer. Our program also includes a quarterly written newsletter with updated procedures, scenarios, Web site links, MERT member rescue stories, and more.
